A Day to Remember: Big L

On this weeks "A Day to Remember" we'll remember the one and only Lamont Coleman, but you might know him as Big L. Big L was born in Harlem,New York on May 30, 1974.  He was the youngest of three, and his father left him while he was a child. Even early in life he became a huge Hip-Hop fan and spit some freestyles against his neighborhood
.

In 1991 Big L founded the rap group Children of the Corn with Killa Cam( also know as Cam'ron), Murda Mase( known now as Mase), and Bloodshed. Big L's first professional appearance came on "Yes You May Remix" and his first album appearance was on "Represent" off of Showbiz & A.G.'s Runaway Slave. In 1993 Big L signed to Columbia Records, and released his first single "Devil's son". On 1994 Big L released the radio edit of "Put It On" and later released the video.

Big L's solo album, Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous, was released in March 1995. In 1996 Big L was dropped from Columbia Records and in 1998 Big L formed his own independent label, Flamboyant Entertainment. He released "Ebonics" in 1998. Damon Dash, the CEO of Roc-A-Fella-Records, took interest in Big L after the release of "Ebonics".

On February 8, 1999 Big L,Herb McGruff, C-Town, and Jay-Z started the process to sign with Roc-A-Fella Records as a group called "The Wolfpack". Sadly L was never able to sign with Roc-A-Fella because    7 days after he started the process to sign, he was gunned down. On February 15, 1999 Big L was shot nine times in the doorway of 45 West 139th Street in Harlem. Big L died at the age of 24, and left us with many hits i still listen to this day. On this day we remember Big L, may you rhyme in peace.
